Winter Prep: Our Final Thoughts

November 4, 2024

As the leaves fall and holidays are upon us, now is the time to turn your attention to the chilly months ahead. Yes, winter (we said it!) is creeping in faster than we think.

Here’s our guide to prepping your facility for the winter:

Rake in Those Drafts

No one wants to work or do business in an icebox! Inspect your windows and doors. Use weather stripping to stop air leaks. Maybe it’s time to consider replacement. Don’t forget to check insulation in the ceilings and walls to ensure there’s enough to keep your buildings warm.

Hot or Cold?

We recommend a happy medium–“cozy” if you will! As we transition from cooling season to heating season, make sure your heating and ventilation systems are in tip-top shape by scheduling maintenance and changing filters.

Another Bright Idea!

Inspect all indoor and outdoor lighting from drive-thru lane signals and marquee signs to interior exit signs and emergency lighting. Maybe it’s time to consider LED lights!

Avoid a Winter Slip n’ Slide

Repair cracks or unevenness on your walkways that could cause more problems when covered in ice or snow. And a friendly reminder to make a plan for snow removal, if needed. NOTE: If you poured fresh concrete this year, remember to use salt made for new concrete!

Don’t Fall Behind on Landscaping

Be sure leaves are raked, plants and trees are cut back and not blocking walkways or security cameras and seed any bare spots on your lawn. Your future springtime property will certainly be looking good!

Roof & Gutters

These should be checked every shingle fall! You will never regret a thorough inspection of your roofing and removing leaves, sticks and other debris from gutters, roof drains and downspouts. And be sure your heating tape is working properly!

Ready for Hibernation

Give that outdoor equipment a pre-winter check-up. Turn-off outside water sources and inspect all equipment outside your building to include drive-thru lane banking items, bollards and generators.

So, get that winter prep work done! Your future self will thank you and your facility will surely be ready for whatever winter throws its way. Remember, J&P Site Experts is always just one call away and we LOVE winter prep work.
